Fascial tissue is a three-dimensional web of connective tissue that surrounds all aspects of the body including muscles, bones, organs, nerves, and blood vessels. This supportive tissue holds us together and should be fluid which will allow proper movement of your system. With the daily stresses of life, this tissue can become stiff and restricted causing improper movement and placing pressure on all structures of your body. Over time, if this tissue is not addressed, the restrictions can become so solidified that it can place up to 2,000 pounds of pressure on your body. These fascial restrictions do not show up on standard tests such as x-rays, cat scans, and MRIs and clients often struggle to identify the source of their pain.
Other modalities of massage may only provide temporary relief of your symptoms since they do not treat the underlying cause of tight fascial tissue. This is where myofascial release therapy (MFR) is helpful. The MFR approach addresses the tight fascial tissue directly by applying a gentle, sustained pressure to the affected area which provides a gentle stretch that releases the tissue causing the problem.
MFR therapists are trained to look for patterns within your system. The pain you feel in your knee could be coming from a holding pattern/restriction in another part of your body. The MFR technique is used throughout the body to release these restrictions, to help relieve pain and create better alignment.
Here is a list of conditions that MFR typically resolves:
- Adhesions/ Scars
- Back/Neck Pain
- Carpal Tunnel
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Chronic Headaches/ Migraines
- Disc Problems
- Fibromyalgia
- Incontinence
- Jaw Pain (TMJD)
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Myofascial Pain Syndrome
- Neurological Conditions
- Orthopedic Conditions
- Pelvic Pain
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Post- Cancer Related Pain
- Sciatica
- Scoliosis
